Governor of Kano State, Abba Yusuf, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to empowering women and promoting gender inclusion as the world marks International Women’s Day.
The governor made the pledge in a statement issued on Sunday by his spokesperson, Sunusi Bature, to commemorate the global celebration.
Yusuf described women as the backbone of society, noting that their contributions to family life, community development, governance and economic growth remain invaluable.
According to him, the theme of this year’s International Women’s Day underscores the need to accelerate action towards achieving equal opportunities and ensuring women are given platforms to thrive across different sectors.
The governor said his administration remains committed to implementing policies and programmes that promote women’s education, economic empowerment, access to healthcare and active participation in governance.
He added that the state government has continued to support initiatives aimed at uplifting women, particularly through entrepreneurship support, vocational training and skills acquisition programmes designed to enhance their productivity and economic independence.
Yusuf also commended women across Kano State for their resilience, dedication and vital roles in building strong families and communities.
He called on stakeholders, development partners and community leaders to support policies and initiatives that protect women’s rights and expand opportunities for them.
The governor further reaffirmed his administration’s determination to prioritise programmes that promote gender equity and enable women and girls in the state to realise their full potential.
