Adelakun Wins Maiden EGGA Alumni Golf Tourney

It was a dream come true for handicap 21Golfer, Adebayo Adelakun, who despite facing more experienced amateur golfers, emerged winner of the maiden Elite Global Golf Academy Alumni Championship held at IBB International Golf and Country Club, Abuja.

Adelakun scored 68 nett to outplay over 120 golfers at the one-day championship put together by the Elite Global Golf Academy.

Handicap 23 amateur golfer, J.W Choi, scored cumulative gross of 95 with 72 nett to emerge best nett in the EGGA men, while Akindoju finished as the runner-up.

T. Kate won the best EGGA Ladies with 71 nett on count-back while E. Thompson was adjudged the first runner-up, and A.S Akpan finished second runner-up.

Past Lady Captain Grace Ihonvbere shots 215 metres in the longest drive ladies while Akinpade won the longest drive Men.

The winner Adelakun thanked the organisers and sponsors of the competition for a job well done, saying he trained hard for the event.

He attributed his victory determination and hard work and vowed to pose better result in the next edition.

First Nigerian lady golf professional, Uloma Mbuko Ogbuokiri, who established the academy, said the purpose of the 18 holes championship was to bring the academy alumni together as a way of rating them on what they learnt during their sojourn in the golf school.

The South Africa’s trained golf Instructor said bringing the Academy Alumni together will also help in the area of development of the game.

Chairman, Elite Global Golf Academy, Dr. Elijah Ogbuokiri, was of the opinion that the championship will further open more competitions among the alumni.

Over 100 amateur golfers including the club captain, Mike Ekoja, and Lady Captain Joy Ikwue, participated in the one-day event.
