United States president, Donald Trump, has said the US benefits financially when global oil prices increase, noting that the country remains the world’s largest oil producer.
Trump made the remark on his social media platform, Truth Social, while reacting to rising global energy prices amid tensions involving Iran.
“The United States is the largest Oil Producer in the World, by far, so when oil prices go up, we make a lot of money,” he wrote.
However, Trump stressed that his primary concern remains preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons, which he said could threaten regional and global stability.
“BUT, of far greater interest and importance to me, as President, is stoping [sic] an evil Empire, Iran, from having Nuclear Weapons, and destroying the Middle East and, indeed, the World. I won’t ever let that happen!” he added.
Trump’s comments came around the same time a statement by Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, was broadcast, as tensions continue to shape discussions around energy markets and security in the Middle East.
Analysts say geopolitical tensions involving Iran often influence global oil prices due to the country’s strategic role in the energy market.
