Rivers United’s head coach, Finidi George, remains optimistic despite his team’s impressive unbeaten streak coming to an end. The ‘Pride of Rivers’ suffered a 2-1 defeat to Shooting Stars in Ibadan on Thursday, a rare setback in what has been a dominant season.
Sodiq Ibrahim and Qamar Adegoke secured the goals for the home side, with Wasiu Falolu netting a consolation for the visitors. However, Finidi views the match as a valuable learning experience rather than a crisis.
Following the game, the former Nigerian international focused on future improvements, highlighting the need for minor adjustments. “We need to go back, make a few corrections, and keep the players confident,” Finidi stated. “We have to encourage them to express themselves properly in the next game. We are quite optimistic as the season proceeds.”
Despite the sting of defeat, Rivers United maintain a strong position at the top of the NPFL table with 52 points, firmly in control of their destiny.
