The Social Transparency and Youth Leadership Advancement Initiative has called for administrative review and institutional reforms at the National Hydro Electric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (HYPPADEC), citing concerns about governance and operational processes within the agency.

Making the call at a press briefing in Abuja,

convener of the organisation, Comrade Okpanachi Jacob, said the briefing was convened to draw attention to issues that had generated public interest regarding the management and administrative structure of the commission.

He said the organisation’s intervention was aimed at encouraging transparency, accountability and effective oversight in public institutions.

According to him, the commission plays an important role in delivering development interventions to communities hosting hydroelectric power infrastructure across Nigeria.Nigerian Current Affairs

“HYPPADEC occupies a strategic place within Nigeria’s development architecture. The Commission was established to address the developmental and environmental challenges faced by communities that host hydroelectric power facilities,” he said.

He noted that the organisation believes the effectiveness and credibility of the commission are essential to ensuring that affected communities continue to benefit from its programmes

Jacob said issues relating to workplace governance, procurement processes and administrative structure within the commission had attracted public attention and warranted appropriate institutional review.

“As responsible stakeholders committed to strengthening public institutions and promoting accountability in governance, we believe that issues of this nature deserve careful attention from the appropriate authorities,” he stated.
