The chairman of Bogoro local government area, Hon Yakubu Lawi Sumi, has approved scholarship for 23 indigenes of the area to study at the Oil and Gas Academy, Alkaleri.
The beneficiaries, selected from various communities across the local government area, will pursue different certificate and diploma programmes at the institution.
While presenting admission letters to the students during a brief ceremony at the council secretariat yesterday, the chairman assured them that the local government council would fully sponsor their studies until completion.
Lawi Sumi explained that the initiative forms part of his administration’s commitment to human capital development and educational advancement in Bogoro.
According to him, empowering young people through education and professional training remains one of the most sustainable ways to promote community development, economic growth, and social transformation.
He noted that the scholarship programme also fulfils a key promise made during his election campaign, stressing that his administration remains determined to translate such commitments into tangible opportunities for the people of Bogoro.
The chairman added that the beneficiaries would gain specialised knowledge and practical skills in the oil and gas sector, enabling them to contribute meaningfully to both the local and national economy after completing their studies.
He further assured residents that his administration would continue to implement policies and programmes aimed at expanding access to education and easing the financial burden on parents, particularly those from less privileged backgrounds.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Dade Junior Zakka expressed appreciation to the Bogoro local government council for the opportunity, describing the scholarship as a life-changing intervention.
He commended the chairman for prioritising the welfare and educational empowerment of the people of Bogoro.
The scholarship scheme is currently in its fifth phase, reflecting the council’s sustained commitment to supporting education and youth development in the area.
