The popular motorpark popularly known as Sawmill Garage in Ilorin, Kwara State was on Saturday razed by fire.
LEADERSHIP gathered that two vehicles were completely destroyed during the incident that occurred in the midnight.
Sources at the motorpaark said it was the swift intervention of the men of the Kwara State Fire Service that prevented the fire from spreading to about 36 other vehicles parked in the park.
The spokesperson of the state Fire Service, Hakeem Adekunle confirmed the incident.
He said firefighters swiftly intervened and brought the fire under control at about 03:03am , preventing it from spreading to the remaining vehicles within the garage.
Adekunle added, ” On Saturday, 14th March 2025, at 02:48hrs, the Kwara State Fire Service responded to a fire outbreak at Sawmill Garage, Odo-Okun Area, Ilorin, Kwara State.
“The incident involved a motor park accommodating about thirty-eight (38) vehicles. Upon arrival, firefighters discovered that two vehicles were affected by the fire, a Toyota Sienna and an 18-seater bus with registration numbers JJJ876HJ and KSF223SK respectively.
“Information gathered from the driver of the affected bus revealed that he had arrived from a long-distance journey the previous afternoon and was waiting for his turn to convey passengers the next day. However, in the early hours of the morning while he was asleep, he suddenly noticed that his bus had caught fire. Efforts were immediately made by those at the garage to move other vehicles away to isolate the burning bus, but unfortunately a Toyota Sienna parked close to the affected bus also caught fire.
“Firefighters swiftly intervened and brought the fire under control at about 03:03hrs, preventing it from spreading to the remaining vehicles within the garage.”
