The Yobe State Government has organised a two-day training workshop for state messengers as part of ongoing civil service reforms aimed at improving efficiency and service delivery in the public sector.

Declaring the workshop open in Damaturu, the Head of Service, Abdullahi Musa Shehu, said the initiative aligns with the reform agenda of Governor Mai Mala Buni to strengthen the state civil service and ensure continuity in government operations.

A statement issued by the Information Officer of the HoS, Alhassan Sule Mamudo said, Shehu disclosed that the training became necessary following the retirement of many civil servants in recent years, which created manpower gaps across several ministries, departments and agencies.

According to him, the government adopted a “top-to-bottom” approach to capacity building to ensure that every cadre within the civil service receives adequate training and attention.

“As part of the ongoing reforms, the messenger cadre has been upgraded and renamed ‘Office Assistants’ to reflect modern administrative responsibilities and evolving workplace roles,” he said.

The Head of Service also commended Governor Buni for his continued commitment to staff development through regular training programmes both within and outside the state.

He expressed confidence that the resource persons engaged for the workshop would effectively guide participants on their duties and help reposition the cadre for improved productivity and service delivery.

Earlier, the Focal Person on Training and Succession Planning, Ibrahim Bulama Yusuf, said the workshop was designed to equip participants with practical knowledge of office procedures, their roles and responsibilities, as well as relevant public service rules and regulations.

Yusuf added that the training would also motivate the participants and promote greater inclusion of the cadre in governance processes.

He commended the state government under the able leadership of Governor Mai Mala Buni for prioritising the welfare and professional development of civil servants across the state.
