American actor Michael B. Jordan, who won the Best Actor award at the 98th Academy Awards, has encouraged emerging creatives to remain authentic and dream boldly.
Jordan delivered the message to journalists in the press room during the ceremony on Sunday at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.
The Sinners star reflected on the values that shaped his journey in the film industry, noting that lessons from his father influenced his approach to success.
“My father always told me, ‘Don’t expect anything to be handed to you.’ You do the work, and everything else will figure itself out,” he said.
Jordan advised young artists not to be distracted by criticism or outside pressure, urging them instead to stay focused on their individual paths.
“At the same time, what’s for you is for you, and you can’t listen to anybody else. I’m just walking my path,” he said.
“I would encourage other actors and other artists, no matter what their medium is, to keep that in mind. To be honest and truthful. Dream big, and be kind.”
During his acceptance speech, the actor also paid tribute to Black cinematic icons who paved the way for a new generation of performers.
