Barcelona Demolish Newcastle 8-2 On Aggregate To Reach Champions League Quarterfinals

Barcelona delivered a footballing masterclass at home, thrashing Newcastle United 7-2 in the second leg of their UEFA Champions League tie, securing an emphatic 8-2 aggregate victory to march into the quarterfinals.

The Catalans showcased their attacking prowess from the outset. Raphinha opened the scoring in the 6th minute, setting the tone for a goal-filled evening. While Anthony Elanga briefly equalized for Newcastle in the 15th minute and again in the 28th, Barcelona’s relentless pressure proved too much. Marc Bernal added a second for Barca in the 18th, and a Lamine Yamal penalty in first-half stoppage time gave Barcelona a 3-2 lead at the break.

The second half was a complete domination by Barcelona. Fermín López extended their lead in the 51st minute. Robert Lewandowski then scored a quickfire brace in the 56th and 61st minutes, showcasing his predatory instincts. Raphinha capped off the scoring in the 72nd minute, sealing a remarkable 7-2 victory on the night.

Newcastle struggled to contain Barcelona’s fluid attacks and despite some late attempts, including a shot from Lewis Hall saved by substitute Wojciech Szczesny, they were unable to mount a significant comeback. The Magpies’ night was further marred by injuries to Sandro Tonali and tactical substitutions throughout the match.
