Aside from making the news for declaring himself the best in the music industry, without competition, the Nigerian singer and songwriter’s foundation has embarked on a philanthropic gesture, offering vital healthcare support to over 400 people living with sickle cell disease.

The Adekunle Gold Foundation, during this recent medical outreach in Lagos, partnered with the Sickle Cell Advocacy & Management Initiative (SAMI). The programme provided a variety of services, including blood transfusions, diagnostic testing, pain management, specialist consultations, and the distribution of medicine for up to three months.

Nigeria is reported to be the epicentre of sickle cell disease, as the country has the largest number of sickle cell patients in the world. However, healthcare for the genetic condition is still underfunded. It is no surprise that Adekunle Gold Foundation would undertake this community outreach, as the founder himself has lived with the condition since childhood. The foundation aims to provide care to affected individuals and raise public awareness of the disease. “It’s not just the physical pain, it’s the constant need for medical care and support that many people simply cannot afford,” Gold said.
