Governor of Akwa Ibom, Umo Eno has described late preacher and Christian leader Uma Ukpai as a priceless gift to Akwa Ibom State and humanity at large.

Speaking at the Night of Songs and Tributes held in Uyo on Friday as part of the cleric’s funeral rites, the governor praised Ukpai’s lasting spiritual and social impact, particularly his support for the state’s development agenda.

Eno noted that the revered evangelist consistently backed his administration’s Arise Agenda and contributed significantly to the peace and progress of the state. He described Ukpai as a moral compass who leveraged his global influence to champion the cause of the less privileged.

He also commended the late cleric for founding the Uma Ukpai Evangelistic Association, headquartered in Uyo, through which he spread the Gospel worldwide with passion and raised generations of evangelists.

“For over six decades, he defined the spiritual identity of our state. Though originally from Abia, he made Uyo his home and base, blessing us immensely,” Eno said, adding that the state would continue to honour his legacy.

The governor further expressed personal appreciation for Ukpai’s guidance and prayers, noting his unwavering support and wise counsel. He reassured the family, particularly his wife, Dr. Philomena Ukpai, of the government’s commitment to preserving and advancing the cleric’s vision.

As tributes poured in, speakers unanimously described Rev. Ukpai as an irreplaceable figure whose life and legacy would continue to shape the spiritual and leadership landscape of Akwa Ibom and beyond.
