Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba State, has charged religious leaders, traditional rulers, politicians and other stakeholders to take responsibility for promoting peace, unity and development in the state.
Governor Kefas gave the charge at a combined service organised by the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), Taraba State chapter in Jalingo on Sunday.
The governor, who spkoe on the theme: “The Power of Unity,” said the church must rise above denominational differences and personal interests, and unite around Christ, truth, love and the common good of the state.
“There are things we may never achieve separately, but God can enable us to achieve them together,” the governor said.
Governor Kefas stressed that, unity would not happen by accident, urging individuals to take responsibility for forgiveness, reconciliation and bridge-building.
“Someone must accept responsibility to forgive. Someone must accept responsibility to reach out. Someone must accept responsibility to stop the bitterness and build the bridge,” he said.
The governor urged pastors to support and pray for one another rather than compete, saying a united church would have a stronger voice and greater impact on society.
He described Taraba’s ethnic, cultural and religious diversity as a strength that should be harnessed for development rather than used to promote division.
“Our diversity must never become our weakness. It must become our strength,” he said.
He called on traditional rulers, religious and political leaders, parents, youths and communities to contribute to building a peaceful and prosperous state.
Kefas urged the PFN to transform the combined service into sustained cooperation, stressing that Christians must stand together for peace, righteousness and the progress of Taraba.
The governor expressed confidence that the state would experience greater transformation if citizens accepted responsibility and worked together for the common good.
In an address, the chairman of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), Taraba State chapter, Reverend Timothy King, commended Governor Kefas for honouring for the development recorded across the state, particularly in infrastructure and attention to the welfare of children and Tarabans.
Reverend King described leadership as a sacred trust, expressing optimism that the Kefas administration would bring greater development to the state.
He called for stronger collaboration between the government and the church, saying such partnership would contribute significantly to the progress and development of Taraba State.
