A loyalist of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Khamis Musa Darazo, has described the entry of Dr Bala Maijama’a Wunti into the Bauchi State governorship race as a strategic consolidation of political strength.
Darazo told journalists in Bauchi yesterday that Wunti’s entry into the All Progressives Congress (APC) reflects a broader political realignment already unfolding across Northern Nigeria, positioning the APC for stronger influence in the region.
“From a strategic standpoint, Bala Wunti represents more than a candidacy, he represents capacity. He has the ability to mobilise, unify, and translate federal vision into grassroots acceptance, which is critical in today’s political environment,” Darazo stated.
He noted that although Bauchi has historically been a competitive political landscape, Wunti’s entry into the APC introduces a stabilising force for the party.
“In politics, structure wins elections, but credibility sustains dominance.
Wunti brings both. His grassroots acceptance reduces friction and strengthens voter confidence in the APC as a viable platform,” he added.
On the broader regional implications, Darazo linked the development to President Tinubu’s Northern engagement strategy, which he described as deliberate and long-term.
“The President’s approach focuses on building alliances, empowering credible local actors, and deepening political ownership at the state level. What we are seeing in Bauchi is a clear reflection of that strategy yielding results,” he said.
Darazo further explained that the inclusion of influential figures with established networks helps to minimise resistance and reshape the political equation.
“Elections are not won by noise but through coordination, structure, and trust. With figures like Bala Wunti, the APC is reinforcing all three pillars simultaneously,” he emphasised.
Speaking on President Tinubu’s prospects in Northern Nigeria, Darazo expressed confidence, noting that increasing alignment of key stakeholders with the APC is gradually strengthening the party’s position.
“The trajectory is clear. As more strategic stakeholders align with the APC, securing the Northern bloc becomes less contentious and more structured. It is about building consensus, not confrontation,” he said.
He added that Wunti’s entry is part of a broader long-term political vision.
