The national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, has boosted the game of draught in Plateau State by setting up N500,000, N300,000 and N100,000 for 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes at the tournament organised in Jos in his honour at the weekend.

LEADERSHIP reports that the competition was organised by Shabul Mazadu and co-sponsored by Prof. Patrick Dakum, Gideon Kambai and Hon. Jonathan Mashi. Over 64 drought players contested for various prizes at the four-day event.

Yilwatda, who was represented at the opening ceremony by Hon. Borok Fomson, praised the calibre of the personalities featured in the competition. He said the game, which has gone international, will get a boost in Plateau, as he intends to make it an annual competition.

Borok described the APC national chairman as a lover of sports and a promoter of talent without discrimination, adding that draught is a game of intellect.

He commended the organisers for honouring him with the tournament and urged the players to display sportsmanship throughout the competition.

Earlier, Shabul Mazadu, the competition’s organiser, said he was motivated by Yilwatda’s achievements at both the state and national levels.

According to him, the APC national chairman has empowered over 6,000 youths as the minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction with different skills; provided one-month free medical treatment of all kinds of diseases in Plateau, boosted dry season farming and empowered 400 women with N50,000

He said Yilwatda was a God-sent messiah who had come to liberate the youths and vulnerable persons from the shackles of poverty in the state and the country at large.

On his part, the chairman of the Draught Competition Committee, Rev. Aaron Adudaba, hailed Yilwatda for serving the country in various capacities with distinction, from teacher and lecturer to INEC resident commissioner, minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, and APC national chairman.
