Two camps within the All Progressives Congress (APC) Benue State chapter, controlled by Governor Hyacinth Alia and the secretary to the government of the federation, George Akume, have taken their disunity and division to Lafia, venue of the APC North Central zonal congress.
The zonal congress, held yesterday in Nasarawa State, witnessed sharp division among supporters of the two camps, who left and returned separately.
The Benue APC State Organising Secretary, James Ornguga, a loyalist of Governor Alia, said Chief Benjamin Omale was confirmed as the authentic state chairman at the zonal congress.
Ornguga, who said Omale remains the state party chairman, stated on his verified Facebook page, “North Central zonal congress. It’s still Omale! The Alia effect. With Governor Alia, the game would always be better!”
Our correspondent observed that Omale’s picture appeared in the event brochure among the North Central state APC state chairmen.
Meanwhile, speaking with LEADERSHIP in a telephone interview, spokesperson of Benue State APC camp loyal to Akume, Daniel Ihomun, said they were on their own in Lafia,” We went for the North Central zonal congress held in Lafia with our delegates and accreditation was done”
Ihomun added, “It was affirmation. Our delegates were screened and accredited. We did not join forces with Governor Hyacinth Alia’s people. We were on our own in Lafia. But the zonal congress was free of rancour”, he said.
