3 Benue APC Delegates Killed In Road Crash

No fewer than three delegates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from Ogbadibo Local Government Area of Benue State have reportedly died, while 10 others sustained injuries in a road crash.

The victims were travelling from Makurdi to Lafia to attend the party’s North Central zonal congress held on Wednesday when the accident occurred

Though, there was no official confirmation of the exact number of victims, a senior APC official who pleaded anonymity told our correspondent in a telephone interview that three delegates died when a bus conveying them lost control and crashed inside the bush. “I can confirm that about three occupants of the bus died while 10 or 11 others sustained injuries and are receiving treatment at BSUTH. The bus conveyed some ward and local government APC officials from Ogbadibo.”

Meanwhile, Benue State governor, Hyacinth Alia had on Wednesday evening after the North Central APC zonal congress visited the injured victims receiving treatment at the Benue State University Teaching Hospital, Makurdi.

Meanwhile, the deputy governor of Benue State, Sam Ode, has expressed deep sorrow over the unfortunate road accident.

Ode said the tragic incident has brought immense grief not only to their families but also to the party and the entire state.

The deputy chief press secretary,
Office of the Deputy Governor, Ior Ikyereve, in a statement on Thursday said the deputy governor described the development as “heartbreaking,” noting that the victims were committed party members who were on a journey to participate in an important party activity.

The deputy governor assured that the Government of Benue State stands in solidarity with them, their families and all party members at this difficult time.

He also commiserated with those who sustained injuries in the accident and wished them a speedy and full recovery.

The deputy governor however called on road users to exercise caution and adhere strictly to traffic regulations, especially during long-distance travels.

Benue State APC chairman, Chief Benjamin Omale, while speaking with LEADERSHIP stated, “I will get in touch with the Ogbadibo local government point man to get full details including the number of victims. Others will be discharged today.”

Meanwhile, Benue State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Kehinde Dahunsi, when contacted said, “The accident happened in Nasarawa State not in Benue and the FRSC Command handled the situation yesterday when the incident occurred. I don’t have the full details,” he said.
