At least two persons have been confirmed dead, while two others were rescued after a pit collapsed in Ridawa village, Ghari Local Government Area of Kano State.
An eyewitness, Mujitafa Hashimu, told our correspondent that the incident occurred at about 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, trapping four individuals at the excavation site.
He said the victims, comprising two minors and two adults, were engaged in digging sand for brick-making when the pit suddenly caved in.
According to him, the two survivors—identified as Hadi (15) and Abdulsalam (35)—were rescued after hours of efforts by members of the community, while the deceased, aged about 25 and 13 years, were also recovered.
Hashimu added that some of the victims were pulled out around 2:00 p.m., while others were rescued at about 5:00 p.m. through sustained community intervention.
He noted that the incident was the first of its kind in the area.
Meanwhile, the Kano State Fire Service said it had yet to receive any official report of the incident. The service’s spokesperson, Saminu Yusif, stated that neither the local nor the state office had been formally notified of the incident.
