Popular Nollywood actress Scarlet Gomez has opened up about the emotional toll of playing the lead in the hit series ‘Wura.’

Gomez, who plays Wura Adeleke, a powerful and often ruthless woman in the mining industry, revealed that she had to seek therapy to separate herself from the villainous character.

Speaking during a virtual press briefing ahead of the season four premiere on March 30, the actress credited therapy and a strong support system for keeping her grounded.

“How I strike a balance is through therapy and family. I’m grateful that I have the right support system around me to help me stay centred,” she said.

The actress noted that while the role brought her massive fame and made the industry take notice of her talent, she is careful not to be typecast. She revealed that she often turns down roles similar to ‘Wura’ because she wants to show her range and not just repeat the same performance.

Looking forward to the new season, which features 130 episodes on Africa Magic, Gomez teased a different side of her character. She stated that viewers will see a more “human” and vulnerable Wura, who is at risk of losing everything.

“In this season, people will connect with her on a more emotional level. She’s not as high and mighty as people think; she’s going through things that normal people go through,” she added.
