The provost of the College of Nursing Sciences, Mbano, Rev Sr Laurette Madu, has expressed gratitude to the former governor of Anambra State, Mr Peter Obi, for his continued financial support to the institution, totaling N20 million.
Speaking during the 2027 African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential aspirant’s visit to the college on Thursday, the provost disclosed that Obi had earlier donated N10 million to the school, which was used to install solar-powered electricity and a transformer to improve power supply within the institution.
She noted that the intervention significantly enhanced learning and administrative activities but added that increasing infrastructure demands and student population have continued to stretch the college’s electricity needs.
In a further demonstration of his commitment to education and development, Obi donated an additional N10 million during the visit to support the college’s ongoing growth and infrastructural expansion.
Rev Sr Madu described Obi’s contributions as impactful and timely, emphasizing that the staff and students deeply appreciate his generosity and sustained interest in the advancement of the institution.
In his response, Obi reiterated his consistent stance on investing in critical sectors such as education, healthcare, and poverty alleviation. He stressed that Nigeria’s development depends on prioritizing human capital and building institutions that empower young people.
He urged leaders at all levels to channel resources toward productive ventures that improve lives, rather than consumption, noting that supporting educational institutions remains one of the most effective ways to secure the nation’s future.
Obi also encouraged the students to remain focused in their studies and prepare themselves to contribute meaningfully to society, assuring the college of his continued goodwill.
Obi during the visit also received praises from students and staff, who welcomed with great enthusiasm commending him for what they acknowledged as his enduring support for education.
