Moniepoint Expands Women In Tech Internship, Offers Career Pathways

Moniepoint Inc., a leading digital financial services provider, has announced the commencement of applications for the 2026 edition of its Women in Tech internship programme, aimed at expanding opportunities for women in Nigeria’s technology ecosystem.

The programme, now in its sixth year, is themed ‘There Is Space for You’, reflecting what the company described as a deliberate effort to bridge access gaps for women seeking careers in technology.

According to Moniepoint, the initiative was designed to attract women with “the talent, the drive, and the ambition,” but who may have faced barriers to entry into the tech industry.

However, despite recent progress, women account for only about 25 per cent of Nigeria’s tech workforce, even though they represent nearly half of the population and about 22 per cent of annual STEM graduates. The firm noted that its Women in Tech programme has, over the past five years, focused on closing this gap by creating structured entry points into the industry.

Building on the success of the 2025 “Dream 15” cohort, the largest intake so far, the 2026 edition will offer an expanded number of roles across key disciplines, including Cloud Engineering, Frontend and Backend Engineering, Data Engineering, Systems Administration, Product Management, Information Security, Mobile Engineering, and Site Reliability Engineering.

Moniepoint stated that successful applicants would receive competitive salaries, work tools, branded merchandise, and mentorship from experienced professionals within the organisation. High-performing interns may also be offered full-time employment, a pathway the company said has already transformed the careers of past participants.

Providing insight into the programme’s impact, a former intern, Bisola Abimbola, said her experience contradicted common perceptions about internships.

“I can confidently say the internship was one of the best things that’s happened in my career. I was given real product ownership, working on multiple projects and driving them forward like an actual product manager, not just observing from the sidelines,” she said.

She added, “Projects were thrown at me with an implicit question: ‘Can you handle this?’ I had to step up, own the outcomes, and actually deliver. That experience made me comfortable with the autonomy and accountability I now have.”

Also speaking, the Head of People Operations at Moniepoint Inc., Chinaza Nduka-Dike, reiterated the company’s commitment to advancing gender inclusion in the tech sector.

“With the Women in Tech programme, we are not just inspiring inclusion, we are actively creating sustainable pathways for women to thrive in the tech industry. This is a space where diversity fuels innovation,” she said.

Nduka-Dike added that the initiative empowers women “to take on leadership roles, develop crucial skills, and shape the future of technology,” noting that alumni of the programme have made significant contributions within the company and the broader tech ecosystem.

“The progress we have seen across five cohorts fills us with pride. There is space for the next generation, and we are ready for them,” she stated.

Consequently, the launch of the 2026 edition coincides with the close of Women’s Month and aligns with the company’s commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 5 on Gender Equality.

Meanwhile, applications are open from March 30, 2026, to women across Nigeria, including those seeking to begin or transition into careers in technology.
