The Executive Director and Chief Rating Officer of DataPro, Oladele Adeoye, has said the future of financial journalism will depend on a balance between machine efficiency and human skepticism.

He made this known during the agency’s annual virtual training programme for media practitioners, an initiative introduced in 2021 as part of its corporate social responsibility to deepen public understanding of the credit rating industry and enhance the quality of financial reporting.

Speaking at the training themed “Reporting Financial Analysis in the Age of AI,” Adeoye noted that while Artificial Intelligence is transforming financial reporting, human judgment remains critical in sustaining investor confidence.

He stressed that journalists and analysts must work together to ensure that financial narratives are accurate, properly contextualised, and responsibly delivered.
According to him, financial reporting plays a central role in modern society by serving as a bridge between corporations and the public.

He explained that beyond being a technical exercise of compiling figures, financial reporting is a vital communication tool that promotes trust, transparency, and accountability.

Adeoye added that it connects companies, investors, journalists, and the wider public, ensuring that economic activities remain credible and accessible.

He warned that trust in markets and institutions is largely built on effective financial reporting, noting that without the media, the entire fabric of modern economic systems could be significantly weakened.

Addressing journalists, he said financial reporting should not be seen solely as the domain of accountants and analysts, but as a critical tool for journalism that underpins credibility.

He urged media professionals to leverage financial reporting to scrutinise corporate claims and detect irregularities.

The training programme was designed for financial journalists, editors, and analysts, with the aim of strengthening their capacity to navigate the evolving landscape of modern financial reporting.
