President Bola Tinubu has appointed Professor Shu’aib Aliyu as the new Executive Secretary of the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF), replacing Ahmed Aminu, who stepped down to pursue the 2027 governorship election in Adamawa State.
In a related development, the President approved the renewal of the tenure of Sule Abdulaziz as the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) for a second and final term.
Both appointments take immediate effect.
According to a statement issued on Thursday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Aliyu brings a wealth of experience to his new role.
“His appointment underscores the President’s commitment to strengthening key institutions in the petroleum sector and advancing capacity development for Nigeria’s energy industry,” Onanuga said.
He added that the President expected the new PTDF boss to deploy his expertise toward repositioning the agency.
“The President expects him to leverage his wealth of experience to reposition the PTDF for greater impact in human capital development, innovation, and strategic support for the oil and gas sector in line with national priorities,” the statement read.
On Abdulaziz’s reappointment, the Presidency said the decision followed a positive review of his performance in managing the nation’s transmission network.
It noted that under his leadership, TCN recorded improvements in grid stability, expansion of transmission capacity, and system modernisation.
The statement further highlighted his role in promoting regional electricity integration through the West African Power Pool.
President Tinubu urged both appointees to discharge their responsibilities with diligence and integrity, in line with his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
