The African Democratic Congress (ADC), has demanded the immediate resignation or sack of the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Joash Amupitan and all the National Commissioners.
The opposition coalition said it no longer have confidence in the chairman and national commissioners them as it is convinced that they are incapable of conducting any credible election.
The National Chairman of ADC, Senator David Mark made this demand at a world press conference in Abuja on Thursday, attended by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former govenrors Peter Obi, Rabiu Kwankwaso, Rotimi Amaechi, Liyel Imoke among others.
Mark rejected the INEC’s de-recognition of his leadership as ADC National Chairman and National Secretary, Rauf Aregbesola, and others.
On that note, he said the party
is proceeding with its party programmes, because “there is nothing under the law that makes INEC’s attendance, a mandatory requirement,” adding that ADC “have duly served INEC notice, and we will proceed accordingly.
“We call on the international community to take note of INEC’s actions of April 1st, and of the restraint we are exercising today. We urge them to recognise the clear threat to Nigeria’s democracy and stability, and to hold accountable those who are undermining the integrity of the electoral process.”
