The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, on Thursday, 2 April 2026, led heads of security agencies on an on-the-spot assessment of the security situation in Jos, Plateau State.

The Army Chief during the visit reaffirmed commitment to lasting peace in Plateau State.

The visit comes after attack on Rukuba in Jos, the capital of Plateau State where several citizens were killed and the declaration of 48 hours curfew by the Governor.

A statement by the Army Spokesperson Col. Appolonia Anele, said the visit forms part of ongoing efforts to restore calm and entrench lasting peace across the state.

The statement said the COAS upon arrival, was received by the Governor of Plateau State, Caleb Mutfwang, in what she described as a clear demonstration of strong civil-military cooperation and a shared commitment to addressing emerging security challenges.

The Army Chief received comprehensive operational briefing from the General Officer Commanding 3 Division and Commander, Joint Task Force Operation ENDURING PEACE, Major General Folusho Oyinlola.
