By JIBRIL MOHAMMED NABIL, Damaturu

The Yobe State government has sent 237 teachers and school principals to Kaduna for intensive capacity-building training as part of its ongoing education reform agenda.

The Head of Service, Abdullahi Musa Shehu, disclosed this during a send-forth ceremony held at the Conference Hall of the Governor’s Office in Damaturu.

Represented by the permanent secretary, Service/ Welfare Office and Overseas Manpower Development, Alhaji Shuaibu Ibrahim Amshi, the Head of Service stated that the initiative is a strategic step towards enhancing the quality of teaching and leadership in schools across the state.

The participants comprise 158 teachers and mentors and 79 senior secondary school principals drawn from key education agencies, including the State Universal Basic Education Board, Teaching Service Board, and the Science and Technical Education Board.

Shehu noted that the deployment is part of deliberate reforms aimed at addressing manpower gaps and improving service delivery in the education sector.

He commended Governor Mai Mala Buni for sustained commitment to revitalising education, stressing that the administration’s declaration of a state of emergency in the sector is already yielding measurable gains, including improved student performance and increased recognition.

Speaking on the importance of the training, the focal person on Training and Succession Planning, Ibrahim Bulama Yusuf, emphasised that effective school leadership and modern teaching methods are critical to achieving quality education outcomes.

He explained that the programme, to be conducted at the National Teachers Institute (NTI), Kaduna, will expose participants to advanced pedagogy, innovation, as well as science and technology-driven teaching approaches.

Yusuf added that strengthening institutional leadership in line with the National Policy on Education remains key to improving both teaching standards and students’ academic performance.

Participants were urged to maintain discipline and professionalism throughout the training and to serve as good ambassadors of Yobe State.

They were also tasked with cascading the knowledge and skills acquired to their colleagues and students upon return, to promote continuous improvement and raise the standard of education across the state.
