The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has confirmed the relocation of all remaining home fixtures for Plateau United to a different venue for the duration of the season, citing security concerns.
The NPFL Chairman, Gbenga Elegbeleye, stated that this decision was made to protect players, officials, and travelling teams amid ongoing security challenges in Plateau State.
He explained that the move was necessary as the league enters a critical phase where results are of utmost importance. Elegbeleye underscored that, beyond competition, the welfare and safety of all participants are a top priority.
“The board had to take action as we approach the final stretch of the season. While every match is important, we are equally concerned about the safety of the teams. We want matches to be played in an environment conducive to allowing players to perform at their best, and we hope for a return to normalcy in Plateau State,” Elegbeleye remarked.
Currently, Plateau United sits ninth in the league table but remains within reach of the relegation zone, with any slip in form likely to complicate their chances of survival as the season draws to a close.
