The Nigeria Rugby Football Federation (NRFF) is stepping up its efforts to cultivate rugby at the grassroots level with a comprehensive coaching and medical course in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
Running from 23rd to 25th April 2026 at the MKO Abiola Sports Arena, this three-day programme, a collaboration with the Ogun State Government, aims to develop future coaches and medical staff. The initiative seeks to make rugby more accessible to young people throughout Nigeria.
Prospective participants are required to have completed fundamental World Rugby training modules, including Rugby Ready, T1 Rugby (non-contact), and introductory courses in coaching and player welfare/medical care. The curriculum is designed to impart crucial knowledge on safety, game basics, and athlete management.
Organisers view this initiative as a key component of a wider strategy to bolster Nigerian rugby by enhancing grassroots capabilities and fostering broader engagement.
Notably, the training will run concurrently with the 3rd Tunde Delu Abeokuta Rugby 7s Tournament. The previous edition saw a thrilling contest where Cowrie RFC triumphed over Racing RFC of Lagos with a score of 26–21 to claim the championship.
