Billboards promoting the re-election campaign of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu have been vandalised in parts of Ondo State, sparking concern among supporters and political stakeholders in the state.

The incident was reportedly raised by a support group within the ruling All Progressives Congress, Akure Youth for BTO, which alleged that several campaign billboards mounted in strategic locations across Akure, the state capital, were deliberately destroyed by suspected political elements.

The leader of the group, Faloye Johnson, described the destruction as a deliberate attempt to undermine ongoing mobilisation efforts, adding that the act was politically motivated.

The group called on security agencies to investigate the incident and identify those responsible, insisting that the perpetrators must be brought to justice to prevent a recurrence.

In reaction, the Secretary of the party in Ondo State, Alex Kalejaiye, condemned the vandalism, describing it as an act of indiscipline that does not reflect the values of the party.

Kalejaiye urged those making the allegations to provide credible evidence to security agencies to aid investigations, stressing that anyone found culpable would be sanctioned.

He added that all affiliated groups remain partners in the broader objective of mobilising support ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The party secretary said, “The Ondo APC condemns the destruction of any billboard properly put in place. It is not in tandem with our character as a decent and well-cultured political party.

At the state secretariat, every group is perceived as an arm of the ruling party and a partner in our collective quest to deliver a million votes for President Bola Tinubu.

“We therefore challenge the group to release whatever evidence is available to the security agencies for further investigation. Anyone found culpable should be adequately sanctioned to serve as a deterrent to others.

The focus of the party in Ondo State is to mobilise all party groups and adherents to ensure we deliver handsomely for our candidate and leader come 2027.”

In a separate reaction, the party’s Director of Media and Publicity, Mr. Steve Otaloro, also condemned the destruction, warning that such actions could heighten political tension in the state.

Otaloro called for calm and urged anyone in possession of surveillance footage to release it to security agencies, noting that political engagement must remain peaceful and within the bounds of the law.

“Claims of surveillance evidence by the youth group must be matched with responsibility. Those in possession of such footage, if indeed credible, should release it without delay to aid identification and necessary action against the perpetrators,” he said.
