The President of the National Youth Alliance (NYA), Ambassador Aliyu Bin Abbas, has called on Nigerian youths to rise to the occasion and take decisive action to safeguard the nation’s democracy.

He made this call in his welcome address at the NYA Seminar themed “Birthing a New Nigeria,” alongside the inauguration of 112 Local Government Coordinators for the North-East Zone. The event was held on Sunday, April 5, 2026, at the Double Four Event Centre in Bauchi.

Ambassador Abbas urged young Nigerians to remain civil, principled, and committed to national service.

“It is time for young people to rise, remain disciplined and dedicated to the country, and take responsibility for preserving our democracy,” he stated.

He acknowledged that the journey ahead would be challenging but emphasised that the youth must demonstrate courage and determination.

“This will not be an easy path, but we must make the effort. The responsibility lies with all of us to commit our time and energy toward building a better Nigeria.”

Highlighting the urgency of youth involvement, he noted that the current generation of leaders may not dominate the political landscape in the coming decades, underscoring the need for young people to step forward and fill the leadership gap.

While reaffirming NYA’s commitment to national transformation, Ambassador Abbas expressed deep concern over the current state of the nation.

“Nigeria is at a critical juncture—bleeding, struggling, and in urgent need of rescue. We must rise to make a difference and steer the country back on the path of progress.”

He further emphasised the importance of remembering the sacrifices of past leaders who worked tirelessly to build the nation.

“We must not forget those who sacrificed their hopes and dreams for Nigeria’s progress. It is now our duty to defend and strengthen our democracy.”

In his remarks, Guest Speaker Senator Adamu Ibrahim Gumba commended the NYA for its patriotic vision and expressed optimism about its potential to reposition Nigeria on the global stage.

“Your vision is inspiring. You are determined to transform Nigeria into a nation that commands respect among the comity of nations. This is a noble and commendable pursuit,” he said.

Senator Gumba expressed pride in associating with the organisation, noting the passion and commitment demonstrated by its members.

“I am always delighted to be among you because of the energy and determination I see in this movement.”

He encouraged NYA members to actively engage in the political process rather than remain passive observers.

“You must participate fully in politics. Unite within a political platform where your collective strength can influence leadership and decision-making in Nigeria.”

He further advised that through unity and strategic engagement, NYA members could secure leadership opportunities and contribute meaningfully to national development.

Citing examples from African nations such as Senegal, where young leaders have emerged at the helm of governance, he urged Nigerian youths to aspire to similar achievements.

Also speaking, the Bauchi State Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Hon. Hajara Yakubu Wanka, who served as Mother of the Day, expressed confidence in the capacity of Nigerian youths to reposition the country.

“With unity and commitment among our youths, Nigeria will undoubtedly be on the right path. I commend your vision and am inspired to align with this movement,” she stated.

The event marked a significant milestone in NYA’s ongoing efforts to mobilise and empower young Nigerians toward building a more inclusive, progressive, and democratic nation.
