Residents of Osogbo, the capital of Osun State, have continued to lament the lack of electricity following the havoc caused by the rainstorm on Saturday, 28th of March, 2026.

The late-evening rainstorm threw the town into darkness due to the havoc wreaked on electric poles, buildings, kiosks, billboards, and banners, among others.

Since the incident, residents have continued to suffer from a lack of electricity supply from the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) for domestic and business use.

The company, in a statement, had assured its customers of the restoration of power to the town, and this has been shown in the restoration of the essential commodity to some areas, while a larger part still suffered a lack.

Speaking with LEADERSHIP on Sunday, a resident, Kola Abioye, who resides in the Alekuwodo area and has his business centre in the Ogo Oluwa area of the town, said he and his family have continued to suffer hell due to his business activities, which have remained paralysed.

According to him, his business colleagues with generators cannot afford to operate at capacity due to the fuel price hike, adding that both his economic and social life, like many others in his shoes, have been adversely affected by the situation.

Meanwhile, Governor Ademola Adeleke has invited the authorities of the electricity distribution company to a meeting to support and encourage them to expedite power restoration to the state capital.

Residents testified to frantic efforts by IBEDC officials, but the damage caused by the storm, according to an official who spoke on condition of anonymity, was unprecedented.

While appealing to their customers to be patient, he advised them to carry out the required repairs to their facilities so they may enjoy electricity restored soon.
