Federal Govt Seeks Stronger Public-Private Collaboration On Cybersecurity

The federal government has announced plans to strengthen cybersecurity coordination through closer collaboration with the private sector and other stakeholders.

The minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, disclosed this in a statement, noting that government is working towards the establishment of a Cybersecurity Coordination Council to enhance Nigeria’s response to emerging cyber threats.

He said the proposed council would serve as a platform for improved coordination between public and private sector actors, aimed at boosting the country’s cyber resilience and safeguarding its digital economy.

According to the minister, the initiative reflects a broader policy direction anchored on partnership and shared responsibility.

“Cybersecurity is a shared national responsibility. Protecting Nigeria’s digital economy requires strong partnerships, trusted collaboration and collective vigilance across government, industry and civil society,” Tijani said.

He added that through sustained engagement and collaborative action, the federal government is strengthening Nigeria’s capacity to prevent, detect and respond effectively to cyber threats.

Meanwhile, efforts are also underway to deepen data protection compliance across the ecosystem, with the Nigeria Data Protection Commission intensifying its review of adherence to regulatory standards.

The development is part of ongoing measures to promote trust, security and accountability in Nigeria’s growing digital space.
