Residents of Anyiin, a major commercial centre in Logo Local Government Area of Benue State, are facing a growing humanitarian crisis following renewed attacks by suspected armed herders, which have displaced several families and heightened insecurity in the community.

Many of the displaced are currently taking refuge at NKST Science Primary School in Anyiin, where they are struggling with limited access to basic necessities, including food, shelter and healthcare.

A resident, who identified himself simply as Terna, said the situation has left many families traumatised and uncertain about their future.

“We are living in fear. People ran from their homes with nothing. Now we are managing in the school with children and no clear support,” he said.

The latest incident reportedly involved the destruction of a four-classroom block at RCM Primary School, Akombo, where properties worth millions of naira were lost, further worsening conditions for affected families.

Residents also reported hearing gunshots from different directions in recent days, forcing many to flee their homes.

A community member, Umaru Jacob, described the situation as alarming, noting that fear and panic have become part of daily life in the area.

Humanitarian concerns are mounting as displaced persons, including women and children, face harsh living conditions without adequate relief materials.
