The African Democratic Congress (ADC), Edo State chapter, on Thursday conducted its ward and local government congresses across the 192 wards and 18 local government areas to elect new leaders.

The party said it is fully prepared for the state congress scheduled for Saturday, April 11.

In Egor Local Government Area, Chief Isaac Emokpae, alongside other executive members numbering about 30, was elected by consensus.

As early as 10 a.m., members, donning the party’s caps and other attire, had arrived at the LGA party secretariat in Egor, near the Uwelu Spare Parts Market. By 12:10 p.m., the congress was called to order, and leaders emerged.

Speaking after the exercise, Emokpae said there is no faction in the Egor chapter of the party or across the state.

He said, “This is a new era—an era for positive change, an era for victory, an era for every well-meaning Nigerian to rise to the fullness of the country’s potential.

“I want to use this medium to urge our people to embrace this moving train, the ADC. This is the platform through which bad governance, oppression, insecurity, hunger, and inflation can be reduced. I encourage everyone to remain hopeful in the ADC. By the grace of God, we shall triumph.

“In Edo, as you can see, most of the executives were returned. We are united; we have no divisions. So, anyone trying to create division or faction is on their own.”

In Akoko-Edo Local Government Area, the LGA chairman, Aiyegunle Ofunime, also said there was no crisis, noting that leaders were returned through consensus.

“We have no issues here. The exercise went well in all the ten wards, and we will forward our results to the senatorial headquarters, from where they will be sent to Benin,” he said.

Similar reports were recorded across several wards and local government areas in the state.
