The EKiti State Police Command has said that necessary measures have been put in place to prevent the influx of criminal elements into the state, curtail perpetration of crimes, arrest criminal elements and ensure that the state remained safe for all law-abiding citizens.

The State Police Command, under the leadership of CP Michael Falade, said the move is in line with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu.

In a statement made available to newsmen in Ado-Ekiti, the command’s police public relations officer, ASP Sunday Abutu, said adequate human and material resources have been deployed to that effect.

According to Abutu, the measures put in place are to enable that the command deals with forces capable of endangering lives and property of innocent citizens or causing unnecessary apprehension anywhere in the state.

He added that the  state commissioner of Police has directed the area commanders, divisional police officers, heads of tactical units to increase their daily patrols, engage in visibility policing, constant raiding of criminal hideouts, bush combing operations, stop-and-search operations and intermittent show-of-force.

“Operatives from Police Mobile Force (PMF), Rapid Response Unit(RRS) and Anti-Kidnapping Squad(AKS), have been deployed to the borders alongside the Nigeria Army, DSS, NSCDC, Amotekun Corps, Agro-Marshal as well as the Local Vigilantes and local  Hunters to maintain surveillance and ensure criminal elements do not infiltrate the State.

“In order to ensure an Intelligence-led Policing, the State CID, SID and various intelligence and surveillance teams have been directed to double their efforts and ensure they gather enough, constant, timely and credible intelligence that will assist the Command to nip crimes in the bud before they occur.

“More so, the command will build on the existing community and inclusive policing strategy by encouraging more collaboration, synergy, cooperation and information sharing. Inter-agency synergy, cooperation, operations, and support will be enhanced, as this has helped tremendously in the ongoing joint bush combing operations, border patrols and other combined operations.

“In addition to synergizing with other sister agencies and the local security outfits, the command will work closely with and engage critical Stakeholders such as Traditional Rulers, Religious Organizations, Unions, NGOs, CSOs, Associations and other relevant bodies to ensure that the aims of Community Policing are achieved with a tag “If you see something, say something”.

The police spokesman said command will also take advantage of the available technological equipment, as their importance in the fight against crimes and criminality cannot be undermined.
