Cosmopolitan Varsity Matriculates 430 Students

Cosmopolitan University, Abuja, matriculated 430 new students during its third matriculation ceremony held in Abuja yesterday.

Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Carl Adams, charged the students to embrace artificial intelligence (AI) and emerging technologies.

He described them as critical tools for future relevance in a rapidly evolving global economy.

“We do not see you as just graduates; we see you as future leaders in your professions, whatever profession you are pursuing, whether it be nursing, engineering, computer science or agriculture.

“We want you to go out there pushing your profession, making it stand out, and becoming top professionals in your fields. It is a global market.

“It is a global market where people want the sort of skills you are gaining. Dr Mani said I would probably talk about AI. Well, yes, we do a lot of AI,” he said.

Adams also noted that the institution had recorded steady growth not only in student population but also in academic programmes and quality of instruction.

“We have grown in our courses and in the quality of our offerings. We are providing top-level education that can stand shoulder to shoulder with universities anywhere in the world,” he said.

The Vice-Chancellor questioned the need for Nigerians to seek education abroad at great expense when comparable quality exists within the country, stressing that the university boasts world-class lecturers and researchers engaged in international collaborations.

He further emphasised Nigeria’s vast potential for growth, urging students to see themselves as future leaders across various professions, including nursing, engineering, computer science and agriculture.

“We do not see you as just graduates; we see you as future leaders in your respective fields. It is a global market, and the skills you acquire here will position you competitively,” he added.

On artificial intelligence, the vice-chancellor disclosed that the university has gained international recognition in the field.

He revealed that the institution recently hosted a high-level AI workshop, with faculty members leading sessions on the application of AI in business, project management and law.

He added that the university plans to ensure that every student acquires certification in at least one emerging technology before graduation, in response to growing global demand for such skills.

Also speaking, Dr Olushola Odusanya, Director General/Chief Executive Officer (DG/CEO) of the National Centre for Technology Management (NACETEM), who represented the Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Dr Kingsley Tochukwu Udeh, commended the university’s focus on innovation and its commitment to equipping students with relevant technological skills for national development

He also commended the university for its rapid growth in student population, urging students to take advantage of the institution’s investment in innovation

Earlier, the Registrar of the university, Dr Mani Ibrahim Ahmad, disclosed that the institution has acquired a new site in Jahi as part of its expansion plans.
