Borussia Dortmund are preparing to test Arsenal’s resolve with a summer move for English midfielder Ethan Nwaneri, sources have confirmed.
The 18-year-old, is currently on a season-long loan at Ligue 1 side Olympique de Marseille. The January move was intended to give him regular first-team minutes, but it now appears to have paved the way for a permanent exit.
Despite widespread recognition of Nwaneri’s technical ability and long-term potential, Arsenal are surprisingly willing to listen to offers at the end of the season.
According to BBC Sport, the north London club would demand a fee in the range of £40 million to £50 million to part ways with the youngster.
Dortmund, renowned for developing young attacking talent before selling them for massive profits (Jude Bellingham, Jadon Sancho, Erling Haaland), view Nwaneri as their next project. The Bundesliga side are already drawing up plans for a formal approach once the transfer window reopens.
What remains unclear is whether Nwaneri himself has a preferred destination. With interest also rumored from several Premier League and Italian clubs, the midfielder’s camp has yet to signal a clear frontrunner.
Complicating any potential sale is Nwaneri’s contract security: he remains tied to Arsenal until the summer of 2030, giving the Gunners significant leverage in negotiations.
For now, Dortmund’s interest is real, but Arsenal’s asking price is steep—and the final decision may rest with a teenager who has yet to play a full senior season.
