The Edo House of Assembly has given the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) four months to address persistent poor power supply in the state.
The directive was issued on Monday in Benin when BEDC management appeared before lawmakers over concerns about erratic electricity supply.
Speaker, Chief Blessing Agbebaku, said residents were dissatisfied with the company’s services and urged urgent improvements to avert possible mass protests.
Earlier, BEDC Commercial Officer, Mr Akinyele Ogunleye, blamed the poor supply on reduced electricity allocation from the national grid.
Ogunleye said the company received less than 300 megawatts to serve four states, noting the supply could not meet consumers’ needs.
