United States President, Donald Trump, has deleted an artificial intelligence-generated image he shared on Truth Social after it triggered widespread backlash, including criticism from some of his Christian supporters.
The image, which was removed on Monday, portrayed Trump in a messianic light, dressed in a flowing white robe and extending a glowing hand toward a sick man lying on a hospital bed, as though performing a healing miracle.
The dramatic scene also featured symbolic elements such as the Statue of Liberty, a large American flag, fighter jets, an eagle, a praying woman, a nurse, and a soldier imagery widely associated with depictions of Jesus Christ.
Despite the criticism, Trump defended the post, telling reporters it was intended to represent him “as a doctor making people better.”
“I do make people better. I make people a lot better,” he said, while declining to apologise.
The controversial post came shortly after Trump criticised Pope Leo XIV, who had condemned US and Israeli military actions in Iran, describing them as “absurd and inhuman violence.” The pontiff, currently on a tour of Africa, responded by stating he has “no fear” of the Trump administration and would continue preaching the message of the Gospel.
The image drew sharp reactions from prominent conservative and Christian figures. Sean Feucht called for its immediate removal, stating, “There’s no context where this is acceptable.”
Similarly, David Brody of the Christian Broadcasting Network said the post “goes too far” and “crosses the line,” noting that supporters could back Trump without endorsing such imagery.
Even some of Trump’s loyal base expressed discomfort, describing the image as crossing a religious boundary.
This is not the first controversy linked to Trump’s Truth Social account. In February, an AI-generated clip widely condemned as racist, depicting former US President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama as apes, was posted and later deleted following public outrage.
