The Bauchi State Ministry of Religious Affairs and Societal Re-orientation yesterday convened a high-level interfaith meeting with Islamic and Christian leaders to address prevailing security concerns and strengthen peaceful coexistence across the state.

The meeting, which brought together key religious stakeholders, focused on fostering unity, encouraging prayers for peace, and supporting government efforts to maintain stability as the political campaign season approaches.

The Commissioner of the Ministry, Engr. Muhammad Binni Abdulkadir, who presided over the sessions, said the engagement was aimed at seeking divine intervention and collective responsibility in tackling emerging security challenges in the state.

He emphasised the need for sustained prayers for Bauchi State and the administration of Governor Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, noting that peace and stability remain critical to development.

Abdulkadir also highlighted the government’s ongoing efforts to address insecurity, curb social vices, and promote religious harmony among diverse communities in the state.

He explained that religious leaders were invited due to the ministry’s strong relationship with them, recognising their vital role in shaping moral values and promoting unity through their teachings.

During the Islamic session, the Senior Special Adviser to the Governor on Islamic Affairs, Alarammah Aminu Maisule Zirami, described the meeting as timely, stressing the importance of sensitising the public on security awareness ahead of political activities.

He urged Islamic scholars and Imams to continue preaching messages of peace, unity, and vigilance in mosques and community gatherings, while also intensifying prayers for the state and its leadership.

Prominent Islamic scholars present at the meeting pledged their continued commitment to peacebuilding and social stability.

The Director of Christian Affairs, Pastor Sunday K. Simon, expressed appreciation for the state government’s inclusive approach and called for intensified prayers in churches for peace and successful governance outcomes.

He urged clergy to guide their congregations in maintaining peace, particularly during the electioneering period.

Speaking on behalf of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Bauchi State, Rev. Wakili Mathew commended the Governor’s efforts to promote unity and security, pledging continued support and prayers.

Reverend Father Vincent Bature, along with other clerics, also reaffirmed their commitment to supporting government initiatives aimed at sustaining peace and harmony across the state.

In a unified resolution, both Islamic and Christian leaders agreed to intensify prayers and consistently preach messages of peace, tolerance, and peaceful coexistence within their respective congregations.

In his vote of thanks, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Alhaji Musa Datti Giade, expressed appreciation to all participants for their contributions and reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to promoting peace and stability in Bauchi State.
