Ikorodu City Eye Continental Ticket After Emphatic Win Over Kano Pillars

Ikorodu City FC’s Technical Adviser, Bright Ozadegbe, is brimming with confidence that his side is primed for a continental ticket this season, following a resounding 3-0 thrashing of Kano Pillars in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Matchday 34 clash.

Speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday, Ozadegbe hailed his team’s dominant display at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Onikan, Lagos, on Sunday. Despite the convincing victory, he urged caution: “It’s great to notch such a win, but the job’s far from done. We’ve got a few matches left to play. This season’s objectives differ from last year’s, and we’ll keep pushing right to the final whistle.”

He pointed out that, if the league table froze today, Ikorodu would have hit their target—but with four games remaining, maintaining momentum is key. “After our last outing against Rangers, we’ll know exactly where we stand,” Ozadegbe added, while tipping his hat to struggling opponents Kano Pillars: “They’re battling relegation, but they’re a big club that commands respect.”

The scoring unfolded smoothly for the hosts: Joseph Arumala opened the account in the 29th minute, latching onto Abayomi Ayodeji’s precise pass. Tosin Oyedokun made it 2-0 in the 71st from close range, courtesy of substitute Tomiwa Awojobi, before Ayodeji himself sealed the deal in the 88th with a clinical finish from Folarin Temitope’s supply.

This result bolsters Ikorodu’s push for African competition, potentially their first taste of the continent’s elite stage, while Pillars’ woes deepen in the relegation scrap.
