Summit University, Offa, Kwara State has debunked a report of a bandits’ attack on the instituion, describing it as a false claim.

The vice-chancellor, Professor Abiodun Musa Aibinu, told LEADERSHIP that despite an official announcement denouncing the earlier report, the false claim of a bandit attack resurfaced.

Responding to our correspondent’s inquiry, the Vice Chancellor said, “It didn’t start today. Days ago, a claim quietly surfaced online, an alleged bandit attack at Summit University, Offa. At first, it lingered on the fringes of social media. Then, on April 1st, the story found new life. Suddenly, it was everywhere.

“Messages flew across WhatsApp groups. Posts resurfaced. Panic followed. Parents are worried. Students questioned. And in the noise of an April Fool’s atmosphere, a falsehood began to look like fact.”

There was ‘no attack’, he asserted, stating that the Summit University, Offa, has clearly refuted the claim, describing it as false and misleading.

He confirmed that the campus remains safe, calm, and fully operational, with no security breach recorded.

He said the school authorities are reportedly investigating the source of the claim, and those responsible may be held accountable.

He added, “Sharing unverified information or asking others to verify it for you only fuels the problem. True education is shown in restraint, in critical thinking, and in the discipline to verify before amplifying. “If it is not confirmed, it should not be shared anywhere.”
