The Tanimu Turaki-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on its members to remain steadfast and hopeful as the Supreme Court of Nigeria prepares to hear a crucial leadership dispute on April 22, 2026.

The National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Comrade Ini Ememobong, said this in a statement on Tuesday after a hearing of an appeal at the Supreme Court, challenging a ruling by the Court of Appeal affirming the High Court judgement which nullified the last year November’s Ibadan National Convention of the party.

The convention produced the Turaki-led National executives. The FCT minister back PDP had challenged the legality of the convention in court and got victory.

The Turaki camp filed an appeal which was mentioned for the first time before the apex court on Tuesday.

According to Ememobong’s statement, the Lead counsel for the Turaki-led PDP, Chief Chris Uche (SAN), urged the court to abridge the time for filing processes and allow for an accelerated hearing, citing the urgency of the matter.

He also said the request was not opposed by counsel to the respondents, including E.C. Ukala (SAN) and Kingsley Magbim, representing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), who instead asked for time to file their briefs.

He said after reviewing the application, the Supreme Court granted the request, reducing the timeline to five days for respondents to submit their briefs and two days for the appellants’ reply, where necessary. All filings are to be completed by April 21, with a definite hearing scheduled for April 22.

In a related development, the factional PDP spokesman said the court also granted a similar application in a separate appeal involving former governor Sule Lamido. Lead counsel Paul Erokoro (SAN) successfully sought an accelerated hearing, with the case likewise adjourned to April 22.

He however said, the PDP leadership urged its members nationwide to remain resolute and prayerful. He said the party is optimism that the Supreme Court would deliver judgments that safeguard Nigeria’s democracy and prevent what it described as enthronement of a one-party state.

“The Supreme Court remains the last hope of Nigeria and many Nigerians,” the statement read, emphasizing the court’s historic role in upholding justice even under difficult circumstances.
