The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has hailed the restoration of its authentic logo by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and threatened to institute a N10 billion lawsuit against the commission over what it described as a delay in complying with a court order.
Recall that the logo dispute began after a faction loyal to Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso and Elder Buba Galadima allegedly attempted to take control of the party’s structure. The dispute led to the upload of a different logo on the INEC portal, prompting the National Working Committee (NWC) led by Dr. Agbo Major and the party’s founder, Dr. Boniface Aniebonam, to approach the FCT High Court.

The court ordered INEC to restore the party’s original logo and upload the recognised National Working Committee within 72 hours.

Speaking at a press conference in Abuja on Tuesday, the National Chairman, Dr. Agbo Major, said INEC had restored the party’s original symbol, the “Basket of Fruits on the Nigerian Map,” on its official portal.

“This restoration confirms that the authentic leadership of NNPP under myself and our founder, Dr. Boniface Aniebonam, remains intact.
“The development also marks the failure of an attempt by Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, Elder Buba Galadima and their associates to hijack the party’s structure,” he said.

Major said the NNPP had leveraged the development to strengthen its structures ahead of the 2027 general election by uploading 355 National Assembly candidates across the country, including placeholders.

He added that the party had also uploaded a placeholder presidential candidate in line with INEC guidelines.
According to him, the upload of governorship and State Houses of Assembly candidates has commenced and will be concluded on August 8, 2026.

Major accused INEC of failing to comply with the FCT High Court order directing it to upload the NWC within 72 hours and file an affidavit of compliance within 14 days.
“Because of INEC’s disobedience and delay, we have suffered damages. Our lawyers have been instructed to file a N10 billion suit against the commission,” he said.
He urged youths, women and professionals in the diaspora to join the NNPP, stressing that the party remained committed to justice, equity and building a new Nigeria.
