Wike-Backed PDP Knocks Turaki’s Camp Over Alliance Moves With ADC

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leadership aligned with Nyesom Wike has strongly rebuked claims by allies of Taminu Turaki suggesting that the party is in talks to form an alliance with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), describing the assertions as “misleading and unfounded.”

Speaking at the National Working Committee (NWC) meeting in Abuja on Tuesday, PDP National Chairman Abdulrahman Muhammed dismissed reports of any coalition arrangement, insisting that the party remains independent and focused on reclaiming power.

“In light of recent speculations, we wish to state unequivocally that the Peoples Democratic Party is not engaged in any merger or coalition discussions with the African Democratic Congress or with any other political party in Nigeria,” Muhammed said. “The PDP remains a strong, independent political platform with a clear vision and a credible pathway to reclaiming its leadership role at the national level.”

The chairman directly accused Turaki’s camp of attempting to distort the political narrative, warning that the party would not tolerate actions capable of undermining its integrity.

“We therefore strongly condemn the misleading and unfounded statements attributed to Taminu Turaki, which attempt to create a false narrative of non-existent coalition talks,” he stated. “Such assertions are not only inaccurate but represent a deliberate effort to misinform the public and undermine the integrity of our party.”

He added that while the PDP respects freedom of expression, it would pursue legal remedies where necessary. “We will not tolerate actions that amount to a disregard for the rule of law or that seek to bring the party into disrepute. The PDP will take all necessary legal steps to address any conduct that borders on contempt of court or misrepresentation.”

The party also used the occasion to project unity following months of internal disputes, declaring that it had emerged stronger after resolving leadership challenges. Muhammed noted that the crisis had tested the party but ultimately reinforced its internal democratic structures.

“What we have witnessed in recent months is not merely a resolution of disputes, but the triumph of institutional resilience over uncertainty, and of collective conviction over division,” he said. “Today, we can confidently affirm that the Peoples Democratic Party has emerged stronger, more united, and better positioned to play its historic role in Nigeria’s democratic journey.”

He further revealed that the leadership question within the party had been settled, with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) recognizing and uploading the names of its national officers. “This development provides institutional clarity and further reinforces the legitimacy of the current leadership. The era of uncertainty is behind us.”

Looking ahead to the 2027 elections, the PDP leadership pledged to present a credible alternative to Nigerians, emphasizing renewed unity and grassroots mobilization.

“The PDP is undergoing a period of strategic recalibration, and we are poised to unveil bold initiatives that will not only reposition the party but also offer Nigerians a credible and compelling alternative in the years ahead,” Muhammed said. “The Peoples Democratic Party is back, stronger than ever, and ready to lead.”
