Leaders of Kwara North Senatorial District have thrown their weight behind the second-term bid of Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

At a well-attended rally held at the Metropolitan Square in Ilorin, the leaders said Tinubu has performed well enough to deserve another term in office.

A former Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly and two-time minister, Hon. Issa Bio Ibrahim, addressed the gathering on behalf of leaders and stakeholders of the district.

He used the forum to announce the resolve of the district to support any of its sons who emerges as the gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in a bid to enable Kwara North produce the state governor for the first time since Nigeria’s return to democratic rule in 1999.

The rally was attended by gubernatorial aspirants from Kwara North, including the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Hon. Yakubu Danladi-Salihu, Senator Sadiq Umar, Mohammed Bio, and Alhaji Tajudeen Audu.

Ibrahim said the aspirants had agreed to work together in pursuit of the district’s governorship ambition.

He appealed to the people of Kwara Central and Kwara South to support Kwara North’s bid to produce the next governor in the 2027 general elections.

Speaking on behalf of traditional rulers from Kwara North, the Emir of Lafiagi, Alhaji Muhammad Kudu Kawu, said the agitation for power shift reflects the long-standing aspirations of the district.

According to him, Kwara North has, for decades, remained on the margins of the state’s top leadership despite its contributions to electoral victories and political stability.

He noted that the district has consistently demonstrated loyalty and unity during elections, contributing significantly to the success of the ruling party, and therefore deserves consideration in the spirit of fairness and inclusiveness.

Kawu appealed to stakeholders in Kwara Central and South to support the demand, stressing that allowing Kwara North to produce the next governor would strengthen unity and sustain the state’s reputation as the “State of Harmony.”

A former state legislator and Commissioner for Information, Hon. AbdulMumin Katibi, presented statistical data showing that Kwara North recorded the second-largest voting bloc after Kwara Central in previous elections.

He said the figures demonstrate the district’s consistent role in the emergence of governors from Kwara Central and Kwara South.

Katibi added that the time has come for the other two senatorial districts to reciprocate Kwara North’s support.
