The Defence Minister, Gen Christopher Musa (rtd), Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, and Service Chiefs on Wednesday paid tributes as late Brigadier General Oseni Omo Braimo, Captain Ismail, and other soldiers killed in an ISWAP ambush were buried at Maimalari Cantonment Cemetery, Maiduguri.

The slain officers and soldiers were killed when ISWAP terrorists attacked the 29 Task Force Brigade Benisheik, the headquarters of the Kaga local government area of Borno State, last week.

In an emotion-laden tribute, Zulum described the slain troops as heroes who died defending Nigeria, pledging support to the military and bereaved families.

The Defence Minister said their sacrifice would not be in vain.

The burial, marked by a 21-gun salute and flag presentation to next-of-kin, comes as troops sustain operations against insurgents in Borno.

In separate tributes, Service Chiefs and other officials described the deceased officers and soldiers as brave patriots who stood firm in defence of the country, noting that their sacrifice would not be forgotten.

“They paid the supreme price so others can live in peace,” one of the tributes stated, as prayers were offered for the repose of their souls.

The ceremony served as a reminder of the risks troops face daily in combating insurgency, even as authorities reaffirmed their commitment to restoring peace and stability across affected regions.
