UNILORIN, NCF Sign MoU On Environmental Sustainability

The University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) and the Nigerian Conservation Foundation (NCF) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on environmental conservation and sustainability initiatives.

The agreement, signed on 13th April at the university campus, will lead the establishment of a five-hectare conservation park on the institution’s campus, alongside programmes to promote youth engagement in environmental protection.

The partnership also includes plans to register UNILORIN students as members of NCF and undertake joint research and project development, including carbon assessment of the university’s forest resources.

The vice-chancellor, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, said the collaboration reflects the institution’s commitment to environmental sustainability and conservation.

He noted that the partnership would strengthen ongoing efforts toward sustainable development and create a wider impact within and beyond the campus.

Director-General of NCF, Dr Joseph Onoja, described the university’s efforts as commendable, adding that the initiative would serve as a practical training ground for students in forest resource management and boost advocacy for nature conservation.

The NCF has, over the years, partnered with educational institutions to promote environmental awareness through curriculum development and conservation-focused activities.

The establishment of conservation parks in tertiary institutions, the foundation said, is part of a broader strategy to provide practical solutions to environmental challenges and promote sustainable development in Nigeria.
