No Political Party Has Our Internal Conflict Resolution Mechanism — Yilwatda

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nentawe Yilwatda, has said no political party in Nigeria has a more structured internal conflict resolution system than the ruling party, describing it as central to its organisation and stability.

Speaking during a media chat on Wednesday, Yilwatda said the APC operates a structured conflict management framework across all levels of the party, including the national, state, and local government tiers.

He explained that the system was deliberately institutionalised to manage internal disagreements and sustain cohesion within the party.

According to him, the structure includes mandatory conflict resolution mechanisms in all state chapters, supported by a panel of non-partisan elders who intervene in disputes.

“No political party in Nigeria has our internal conflict resolution mechanism. Right from the state level to the local government and national level, we have a structured system in place. It is compulsory for all states to have conflict resolution mechanisms, and we also have a team of elders who are not politically aligned at the moment.

“They do not have political interests, they serve as an independent intervention body. At the national level, and also across states and local governments, these structures exist, and they have helped us manage interests within the party,” he said.

Yilwatda also emphasised the principle of party supremacy, noting that APC has, on several occasions, overridden the preferences of key stakeholders where it believed public interest was at stake.

“In many cases where we feel governors are not performing well, we have gone against the wishes of stakeholders at different levels, including the National Assembly and state executives. Where necessary, the party has taken decisions contrary to those interests to protect the people.

“We enforce party supremacy across all levels of the organisation, and our positions are followed in all operations across the states,” he added.
