Expert Counsels Gov Yusuf On Choice Of Deputy

A public affairs analyst, Jabir Madaki, has cautioned Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, to exercise due diligence in appointing a substantive deputy governor, warning that the decision would significantly shape the legacy of his administration.

Madaki gave the warning yesterday in a report titled “Government Integrity and Public Interest,” where he described the anticipated appointment as a defining moment for the state government.

According to him, the choice of a deputy governor goes beyond routine political considerations, and any misstep in the process could have far-reaching political and governance implications.

He warned that the appointment would either strengthen the administration’s reputation or expose it to challenges that could prove difficult to reverse.

Madaki also raised concerns over speculations that a candidate with pending litigation may be under consideration, noting that such a development could erode public trust and confidence in the government.

“Appointing a candidate facing unresolved corruption allegations would contradict the administration’s commitment to transparency and accountability,” he said.

The analyst advised the governor to prioritise competence, integrity, and a proven track record in making the appointment, insisting that the state requires a deputy governor capable of complementing the administration’s vision and ensuring stability in governance.

He further urged the governor to consider credible alternatives that possess the experience and professionalism required for the position.

Madaki emphasised that acting in the public interest would not only reinforce trust in the administration but also define its place in history.

He added that the decision remains critical to sustaining confidence in governance and consolidating the administration’s reform agenda.
